SPECIAL DEVICES INCORPORATED INCREASES 2012 LIST PRICING FOR INITIATORS AND MGG’S
MOORPARK, CA, December 20, 2011 – Special Devices Incorporated (SDI) announces price increases for 2012 due to rising raw material costs. Initiators and Micro Gas Generators (MGG’s) in support of Automotive Safety Systems require the use of precious and other metals (gold, platinum, nickel) which have seen tremendous price increases in recent years.
In order to respond to these rising costs, adjustments to the list pricing are necessary. Pricing changes will be effective for all products shipped after 31 December 2011.
SDI is working closely together with its key customers and development partners to implemented value engineering changes to its initiator and MGG products. Implementation of these changes would help to offset the cost of these raw material increases. Those customers who work closely with this effort to ensure that these changes are implemented and approved in a timely manner will be in a position to avoid price increases.

SPECIAL DEVICES INCORPORATED LAUNCHES PHASE II EXPANSION OF THAILAND PRODUCTION OPERATIONS
MOORPARK, CA, January 9, 2012 – Special Devices Incorporated (SDI) has launched the Phase II expansion of our production operations in Thailand (Special Devices Thailand CO., LTD). This expansion is part of a multi-phase implementation to increase the production capability of automotive initiators and Micro Gas Generators (MGG’s) in support of rapidly growing Asian markets.
SDI Thailand is planned as the “Gateway to Asia” for initiator and Micro Gas Generators (MGG’s) in support of automotive safety systems. This added capability will allow Special Devices Thailand to operate as a centralized production facility to support the growing automotive market throughout Asia. Localized initiator production in Asia will allow SDI’s customers to take advantage of benefits provided by ASEAN free trade agreements and reduce costs to import this critical element required for automotive airbags and other automotive safety systems.
The Phase I expansion was completed in July 2011 with an increase of production floor space by over 100% and an added capability for initiator final assembly. Phase II will allow complete manufacturing capability for initiators as well as blending of energetic materials.
Currently SDI ships automotive initiators to customers in Japan, Korea, China and Thailand.

The ability to have a centralized production location, focused on supporting the growing Chinese automotive market and automotive safety system production throughout Asia, will improve our ability to provide quality products to all our customers there.
